Vegetable Planting Timeline for North Texas

Vegetable planting time in North Texas is here. The best time to start seeds is usually late March to late May. Because we’re in the southern zone here in Texas, we can consider starting plants from seed in the earlier months.  Give the plant enough time to germinate and grow to an appropriate transplant size.

The plants that should be started the earliest are broccoli, Brussel sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower and head lettuce, followed by warm season plants such as tomato, peppers, and cucumbers.

If you’re planting seeds be sure to let them grow until they are strong enough to start acclimating them to outdoor conditions. Taking them outside and back inside before transplanting reduces shock and ensures healthier transplants.
